Days of Service

The Leigh Lane Day of Service is an annual event in which Appalachian State students serve in the Boone and Watauga communities. Leigh Lane Edwards was an Appalachian State student who dedicated her life to service, and in her two and a half years at Appalachian, created a legacy of kindness, giving, action, and community. She was engaged with many local nonprofits and campus organizations and had a particular interest in ending hunger and homelessness. ACT honors her memory each year by hosting this day of service and reflection.

The Farm Day of Service is an annual event in which Appalachian State students serve at local farms and non-profits in the communities surrounding Appalachian State University (primarily Watauga and Avery County). Farm Day is typically characterized by outdoor work and collaboration. Volunteers are asked to provide direct, hands-on service to participating farms. This Day of Service is held either on or near Earth Day as a reminder of the importance of sustainable practices in farming, food purchasing, and agriculture.
