In 2019, we raised $31,257.67 at ACT's 19th annual BIG Sale !!

The 19th annual BIG Sale this fall was filled with BIG deals, BIG crowds, and one BIG broken record: $31,257.67 was raised to support energy efficiency projects for local community partners (list above) & an App scholarship! This amazing program would not be possible without our tireless volunteers (100+ today, as well as hundreds more from the Don’t Throw it Away collections) who started the day at 6am, loyal customers (1,000+) who braved the less-than-stellar weather, supportive department & university partners (Engagement & Leadership, University Housing, Physical Plant, & Sustainability), and even more community partners who helped ACT divert the final BIG Sale leftovers from landfills, including Goodwill (clothes, frames, & decor), App State Free Store (school supplies, electronics, & water bottles), and Hospitality House (plates, cups, silverware, towels, sheets, and comforters). Thank you and congrats to all involved in this win-win-win (earth-community-students) program not only today but for the last 19 years!

Funds from the 2019 BIG Sale were used to benefit Hospitality House of Boone, High Country Food Hub, Ashe County Sharing Center, and F.A.R.M Cafe by providing grants to improve the energy efficiency of their facilities and operations. Proceeds also created scholarships for ASU students.

A green program from start to finish, coordinated by our very own Mountaineers!

Items for The BIG Sale are collected at the end of the preceding spring semester as part of Don’t Throw it Away. Proceeds of the sale benefit local nonprofit energy efficiency initiatives and International service-learning opportunities for ASU students.
