ACT Community Outreach Center
Stop by to find out how you can get involved in the local community, sign up for special service events, get info about Alternative Spring Break, find service-learning projects, etc. We are located in 218 Plemmons Student Union (just down the hall from McAlister's Deli). Walk-in hours are M-F: 10am-3pm AND T/W evenings from 5-7pm. Please give us a call at 262-2193.

ACT's Peer Counselors
Assist individuals and groups with finding community service and service-learning opportunities. They keep service opportunities up-to-date, provide one-on-one orientation to new ACT volunteers, and keep the ACT Community Outreach Center running smoothly.

impACT Team
These undergraduate student leaders plan and promote upcoming ACT co-sponsored projects, facilitate class/group presentations, lead reflection activities, etc.

NC-ACTS! AmeriCorps Program
These student leaders each volunteer 300 hours of service at non-profit agencies in exchange for a $1,000 educational award from AmeriCorps. As key volunteers and mobilizers of student service, NC-ACTS! team members seek to educate themselves and others about social problems and act to be part of the solutions.
Alternative spring break leadership team
This dedicated group of students plans and implements the annual ASB retreat and the bi-weekly ASB Peer Leader seminars: they also advise a small group of leaderes in the planning of their trips.

ACT's Professional Staff
Director of Service-Learning, Shari Galiardi, works with ASU faculty members to integrate service opportunities into their curriculum in order to serve the needs of our community while making classroom theory come alive in a community service environment. She coordinates the domestic and international service-learning program, the ASU Service-Learning Council, student service-learning training/orientation, site placements, and course assessments, as well as provides service-learning consultation/training to other universities/colleges across the state and region. Faculty Coordinator for Service-Learning & Public Service Research Program (PSRP), Dr. Norman Clark, coordinates many faculty development initiatives such as the ACT Faculty Fellows Program, Advanced Service-Learning & Community-Based Workshop series, the Service-Learning Syllabus Review process, and the Designated Service-Learning Faculty Program. Associate Director of ACT Community Partnerships, Todd Mortensen, supports our community partner agencies and the ASU students who serve those agencies. He provides agency training, keeps ACT up-to-date on the latest community needs, works collaboratively with the Office of Student Research to provide faculty/students with community-based research initiatives, and coordinates the NC-ACTS! Assistant Director of Community Service, Kate Johnson, advises the coordination of ASU's Alternative Break Program, annual ACT sponsored events (including Dance Marathon, MLK Challenge, Don't Throw it Away/BIG Sale, Earth Week activities, and others), and works with individuals and groups to find volunteer placements in the community. Associate Director of Student Programs, Jenny Koehn, works with Kate in the area of co-curricular community service, and to advance ACT initiatives within the university. This year, she will begin to focus on alumni relations and fundraising goals as we build our newly launched "ACT Annual Student Scholarship & Program Fund for Service & Leadership: In Memory of Leigh Lane Edwards."
