International Cookbook Fundraiser

Just like volunteer service, good food has the power to bring diverse people together from around the globe. Through food and service we share a bit of our culture, history, and way of life. To honor and educate others about Boone's international community, we are seeking to collect up to 150 recipes from visiting international students/scholars, as well as local community members who have spent time abroad, to develop an international cookbook. We hope that this will be both educational and delicious -- a perfect combination!

All proceeds from this project will serve as a fundraiser for ACT's international service-learning and community-based research scholarship fund in honor of Ms. Leigh Lane Edwards. Leigh Lane was an Appalachian student who passed away during her junior year, just months before her first international service-learning experience. She was an active volunteer, touched the hearts/souls of everyone with whom she came in contact, and had a passion for international cuisine. This scholarship fund will allow other Appalachian students to travel, serve, and research abroad via a wide variety of courses/programs. More information about Leigh Lane and this scholarship fund is available here.

Please read the following before you begin:
1. For security purposes, this internet session will time out after one hour; please submit your recipe within one hour of opening this page or you will lose your work.

2. We ask that you provide us with recipes from your home country, or a country in which you have spent a significant amount of time (if you are an American who has lived/studied/served/taught abroad).

3. To make this cookbook unique, please submit recipes that are traditionally served during holidays, celebrations, or festivals. You may submit up to 2 recipes. The extended deadline to submit recipes is December 1, 2009.

4. The fields below with a red astrick (*) are the only "required" fields -- the rest are optional.

5. If you submit a recipe, you will have the option of purchasing one cookbook at a reduced price. You may order as many as you'd like though (details below). We hope to have this cookbook ready for delivery by mid-spring 2010.

6. Please note that due to space limitations, all recipes may not be included in the completed cookbook.
