This faculty development initiative is administered by the Hubbard Center, and is designed to "encourage excellence in the three areas of faculty work: teaching, scholarship/creative activity, and outreach/public service". Funding is for up to $5,000, and must be spent within one year.
For more information please visit the Hubbard Center's website.
ACTion Grants For Students
ACTion Grants were createdto provide a small amount of financial assistance to students who are dealing with financial constraints that will make it difficult to complete their service-learning projects.
These funds may be used to reimburse students for supplies which were purchased as part of a course related service-learning project. All supplies must have been necessary and directly related to the project. For instance, items that would qualify for an ACTion Grant include: painting supplies and lumber needed to repair an elderly person's house, art supplies needed to create craft workshops for children, food needed to cook a meal for persons living in poverty, or materials needed to develop a marketing/fundraising campaign for a non-profit agency, etc. Conversely, the cost of gas to drive to/from the work site or lunch while working on their project are indirect expenses that would not qualify for reimbursement from ACT. To apply, download a copy of this form (pdf).
ACTion Grant Guidelines:
1) Each ASU student may apply for up to $25 per service-learning class. Note: If done as a group project, the group may request up to $50 per service-learning class.*
2) Funds may only be distributed via reimbursement, thus you should not fill out this form until AFTER you have already spent the money. Please attach ALL receipts to this form.
3) Please complete this form and return it to ACT prior to “Reading Day” of the same semester that your project was completed (no exceptions!). You will receive your reimbursement within approximately 3 weeks after submitting this form.
Note: Please keep in mind that ACTion Grant funds are very limited. Thus, if your students can afford to pay for these supplies on their own, we ask that they not request funding so that ASU students with true financial needs can benefit from this program. The ACT staff trusts that students will be honorable in their requests for reimbursement.
